Recovery- Day 5

We had a great day today!

-Last night we didn't get a ton of sleep, but when we slept, we slept hard!  We gave Evin her last bottle around 12:30am, and then woke up at 4:30am so the nurse could get Evin's vital signs and so we could feed her.  She had a chest x-ray at 7:45 this morning, so we only got a few hours of sleep.

-Mitch and I were TIRED today, but Evin must have been feeling like a big girl because she decided she didn't need to nap.  At all.  Between 7:45am and 9:45pm she slept a grand total of 1 hour and 20 minutes.  She was so happy all day and just wanted to smile, play, and have a good ol' time!  I made her agree not to make this a habit... ;)

Since I am trying to document EVERYTHING, here I am, looking rather haggard.  Good sleep in a hospital doesn't really exist!

-Her chest x-ray this morning looked more clear than the last one she had 2 days ago, but still showed just a little fluid in her lungs.

Love capturing moments like this one!

-Evin is no longer on IV fluids!  I expressed concern yesterday over her still looking a little puffy, and today the Nurse Practitioner said that the last 2 days Evin has taken in a little bit more fluid than she was putting out, which made her a little swollen.  She said as long as Evin ate well today, that she wouldn't have to have the fluids anymore.  They also gave an extra dose of Lasix midday to try to get rid of this extra fluid weight she is carrying.

A baby's version of a recliner. :)

-Our little champ has had a fantastic day eating so far.  We have been offering her 3 ounces every 3 hours and she has taken everything we have offered her so far.  This is a big step in Evin's recovery and we are so proud that she catching on to eating again.

-Today the cardiologist mentioned that we might get to go home mid-week.  It just amazes me that Evin had open heart surgery less than a week ago, and there is already discussion of her going home so soon.  What a strong and resilient little babe we have!

-Evin hasn't had any pain medicine since yesterday, and she hasn't really needed any.  I mean, does this girl look like she is in pain?!

Thank you all for joining us in prayer for Evin!  It is just crazy the journey her little 5 month old body has endured thus far.  We are thankful to God for SO many things- particularly Evin's fighting spirit and her prayer warriors!

  1. Hello! Someone posted a link to your blog on facebook... I was immediately drawn to it because MY name is Evan - and I'm a girl :)

Just wanted to let you know that YOUR Evin is beautiful! There aren't many girl Eva(i)ns in this world, so we have to stick together - ha!

I will be praying for her and for you as you walk through this. God's plan is perfect - always.
