Evanston Visit- Part 2

On Friday we got up and had a delicious breakfast buffet at the hotel.  Evin snatched up Mums' orange juice and started sipping on it.  When she drinks out of a regular cup without a lid, I tend to use my hand to guide her head back slowly, so she won't spill.  This time, she took it upon herself to use her hand to push her head back.  So funny!

Kyle picked Mitch up at the airport that morning, and he made it in just in time for the drizzly rain and chilly weather.  Lane had golf camp, so we were on our own for a little while.  We walked to a cute place called Gather, which is an indoor play area for little ones.  They have toys, arts & crafts, play-doh, dress up, etc.

Making Play-doh masterpieces with Daddy.

That evening, we ordered burgers and hung out at the Coots' apartment.

Sheriff Ellis was all ready for bed!

The Evanston Farmer's Market was held in a little parking lot right behind our hotel.  Saturday morning we got up and checked it out.  They had so many good vendors with beautiful flowers and delicious looking food.
Evin was being rather uncooperative, so this is the picture I got when I asked her to pose with the flowers.

She did such a good job posing (ha!), the man selling the flowers gave her this one.

She may be a stinker sometimes, but she sure is cute!

We met the Coots and headed to the train to go into Chicago for the day.

Off to the big city!

Somehow, as soon as we arrived in Chicago, it miraculously warmed up after being rather chilly for most of our stay.  The sun came out and decided to beat down on us all in our long sleeves and pants.
We headed straight for Millenium Park for Mitch and Evin's first experience with "The Bean".

Mums with her babes

What a creepy face!
After awhile, the "face" will spit water out into a fountain/splash pad area.

The Chicago River

We stopped in to Dylan's Candy Bar and it was so cute!  Evin had a little too much fun running around (and running from us) while checking out all the candy.

Fun lollipop art!

We picked out a bag of candy to share.  Evin asked for "cany" the rest of the day.

This gentleman was playing the saxophone to earn tuition money.  The kids were glad to donate!
Notice Evin's money missed the bucket- they had to pick it up and try again. :)

We watched them make caramel corn through the window.  We had to buy some, too.  MMM!

Some people on the street were advertising some play, so they were handing out popsicles.  I guess they didn't do too great of a job advertising, because I don't remember at all what play it was for.  We appreciated the cool treat, though!

We headed to the Lego store so Lane could look around, and Evin ran wild.  She was lucky enough to have Mums buy her a Lego set of her choice.

After lots of walking, we jumped on the train to head back to Evanston.

That night we ate dinner at a Mexican food restaurant that Kyla had heard good things about.  We all agreed, it was probably the worst Mexican food we had ever had.  We will stick to Tex Mex, thank you very much!

As we finished up dinner, it started pouring outside.  We had walked to the restaurant, so Kyle ran home, got the car, and came to get us in shifts.

Hitchin' a ride with Mums.

One of Evin's favorites- pushing the elevator buttons.

On Sunday we got up and went to breakfast at one of Lane's favorites- Le Peep.  Kyle was a crowd fav during breakfast.

We walked and saw Lane's school, and then walked to Fireman's Park, so Lane could show us the ropes of one of his favorite places to play.

Ellis was pretty attached to Mums on this trip.

Spinning!!!

We walked to Northwestern so we could see the campus, which was very pretty.  It was neat to see the Chicago skyline over the lake.

That evening, we checked out the rooftop area of the Coots apartment building.
I feel sure everyone could hear us running/rolling/walking down the hallway.

Aaaaand chaos in the elevator. :)

One of the funniest parts of the trip- Kyla was trying to pose the kids for this picture and before she snapped it she said, "Everyone say 'Chicago!'" and Evin yelled "SHA-CAH-GO!" just as clear as day after not being that talkative the entire trip.

Kyla didn't feel well, so we took Lane with us and went to get Andy's Frozen Custard for the second time of the trip.  Yum!

She decided to pour out her milk...in the toilet.

I checked my fitbit at the end of the day...I'd say we did a good bit of walking!

Our last morning there it was raining.  Evin borrowed this blanket from the Coots and decided she loved it and needed to keep it with her all the time.  We had to sneak it away from her when it was time to go.

Saying our goodbyes.

The flight home was a little more difficult than the flight there.  We had a 45 minute delay as we sat on the plane.  Evin got pretty restless & demanding, but we made it.

Daddy & his helper

We had a great time experiencing Evanston & Chicago with native Evanstonians. ;)
What a fun way to start the summer!
